FARM HISTORY

Our family beekeeping business began in 1943 when Gerould Knudsen purchased his first bee hives and started producing honey as a sweetener during the wartime rationing of sugar.

In 1952, Gerould purchased a new truck and became part of the revolution of Canadian beekeeping, by importing package bees from California. His beekeeping quickly became a commercial beekeeping operation, with several family members being involved over many years.

Norm Knudsen grew up with the beekeeping as part of the mixed farm. In 1966 made the first California trip for bees, and subsequently made an annual trip to California. In 1981, Norm & Marilynn purchased our first bee hives, and in 1982 we bought a new 3 ton truck and started our own package bee hauling business in Partnership with brother George. Our truck hauled 2000- 2# packages of bees and made two trips per year until the California border closed in 1987.

Marilynn and Norm both worked at full time occupations and increased our bee operation gradually each year. In 2000 we both retired and our bee farm in Nipawin has since grown to where we now operate 1400 honey producing colonies.
